ANNE MORROW LINDBERGH:  AUTHOR, AVIATOR, LIBERATED WOMAN
Renowned local historian Jim Davidson will present another insightful and captivating talk about this area’s rich history and the Lindbergh legacy.
Anne Morrow Lindbergh is well known for having been the wife of pioneering and controversial aviator Charles Lindbergh and mother of their six children, including Charles Jr., who was kidnapped and murdered, resulting in the Trial of the Century.  This exclusive premier presentation will cover Anne’s privileged New Jersey upbringing through her whirlwind life in the spotlight, troubled marriage, retreat to Europe and even pre-war Nazi connections.
Often overshadowed by her famous husband, Anne was an accomplished aviator in her own right and a noted author, having received numerous prestigious honors and awards in recognition of her contributions to both of those fields. Her many written works included poetry, fiction and non-fiction, culminating with “Gift from the Sea,” which became a mainstay of many American women. She was a woman of her time and is inspiration for ours.
Jim Davidson is President of the East Amwell Historical Society, a member of the Township’s Preservation Committee, and a driving force behind East Amwell’s new museum. He also served 15 years on the Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Committee. A lifetime Hunterdon County resident, Jim is a former history teacher and an avid collector of Lindbergh memorabilia. Much of his collection was recently seen at the exhibit “Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh: Couple for an Age” at Morven in Princeton. He is working on a book titled “When the Circus Came to Town,” detailing the crazy things that went on in Flemington during the Hauptmann trial.

  HISTORY OF THE D&R CANAL
Canal Historian and Author Linda Barth weaves the story of how the Delaware & Raritan Canal  meandered across New Jersey, becoming one of America’s most successful towpath canals, carrying more tonnage in 1866 than even the Erie Canal.  Johnson & Johnson, Roebling, and Fleischmann’s Distillery all had their start along the D&R which now provides people of central New Jersey with both a water supply and an amazing recreational facility. This companion talk is beneficial for all those wishing to join us for our D&R Canal Canoe Paddle on Sunday October 4th or our Bus Tour of the D&R Canal on November 4th.  This talk is free.  Reservations recommended.  Refreshments follow.
