Rutgers University's Professor Emeritus Dr. Robert Sheridan holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University in Marine Geophysics. He was the co-discoverer of the USS Monitor wreck in 1973 which he wrote about in his 2004 book "Iron from the Deep: the Discovery and Recovery of the USS Monitor." Dr. Sheridan has always been interested in Civil War history because his great grandfather, Private James Sheridan, was a veteran of the Union Army. He is a great admirer of his namesake, General Philip Sheridan, who was a true Union Civil War hero |
