David R. Reading is the Executive Director of the Mount Amwell Project, Inc, a historical preservation 501 (C) 3 charity dedicated to cultural and historical preservation in Hunterdon County. The organization’s first project in 2005 was the stabilization of the Reading Burial Ground near Rosemont. The plot is located on a farm once owned by Lloyd Wescott and he and many of his family have their ashes spread there.  The Mount Amwell Project is currently active in other cemetery preservation projects in Hunterdon County. The goal is to restore one a year. The organization also has published John Reading’s Diary edited by David in 2010. The diary was kept by his 5th great-grandfather, Gov. John Reading, from 1747 till his death in 1767. David has also authored several articles of historical interest in the Mt. Amwell Project’s newsletter over the past 8 years.

David is a retired software engineering consultant. After growing up in Hunterdon (Whitehouse, Oldwick, Flemington) he served four years in the U.S. Army and later graduated from University of Maryland University College, Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. He began his career with an aerospace software company in Florida as a computer programmer and eventually became Vice-President of Development. Customers included several federal agencies and Iridium SSC, a commercial satellite communications project.  He formed his own consulting company in 1998 and provided consulting services to the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. until he retired in 2013.

David is a Patron of the Hunterdon County Historical Society, a member of the Descendants of Founders of New Jersey, a life member of the Genealogical Society of New Jersey, and a member the Society of Sons of the American Revolution. He lives in Tewksbury Township with his wife Jan and dog Charlie. He has a daughter Romy who is Post-doctoral Fellow, Addiction Institute, St. Luke's - Roosevelt Hospital Center. Her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology is from the New School for Social Research in New York City. His son John and daughter in-law Marielle and his three grandsons live in Alexandria, Virginia. His adopted son Simon and step-daughter Joy live in Florida.
